What do I need to know about propane?

Propane is a versatile product that can be used to heat your home, cook your meals, heat the water for your showers, dry your clothes, even power your kids’ school bus! It is a non-toxic, colorless, and odorless product. Due to propane's properties that make it highly flammable and explosive, an odorant called ethyl mercaptan is added. This odorant makes it detectable, indicating the possibility of a leak which may otherwise be unknown without the odorant.

Propane is a bi-product of the natural gas refining process, and derived from the crude oil refining process as well. It is compressed into a liquid at refineries, remains as a liquid in a pressurized storage container, and turns into a vapor when released from its storage container. Pressure regulators are required to be used in a propane distribution system so it can be utilized by appliances.

I smell gas. What should I do?

NO FLAMES OR SPARKS – Immediately put out all smoking materials and other open flames. Do not operate lights, appliances, telephones, or cell phones.  Flames or sparks from these sources can trigger an explosion or a fire.

  1. LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY! Get everyone out of the building or area where you suspect gas leaking.

  2. SHUT OFF THE GAS AT THE TANK. Turn off the main gas supply valve on your propane tank, if it is safe to do so. To close the valve, turn it to the right (clockwise).

  3. REPORT THE LEAK. Once you are safely away from the gas leak, call your propane retailer right away.  If you cannot reach your propane retailer, call 911 or your local fire department.

  4. DO NOT RETURN TO THE BUILDING OR AREA until your propane retailer, emergency responder, or qualified professional determines it is safe to do so.

  5. GET YOUR PROPANE SYSTEM CHECKED. Before you attempt to use any of your propane appliances, your propane retailer or a qualified professional must check your entire propane system to ensure that it is leak-free.

The safety of our customers is very important to us. It is crucial to understand how to use propane safely and what to do if you have a propane-related emergency. Please do not hesitate to ask us any questions!

When should I schedule my “Will Call” delivery?

It is best to schedule your Will Call Delivery when your tank is at 30% in the winter or 20% in the summer. This gives adequate time for our drivers to coordinate your delivery into their scheduled routes.

Can my propane tank be remotely monitored?

Yes! Range LP Gas currently utilizes Nee-Vo tank monitors. These monitors use a cellular service that sends a daily tank reading to our offices. Nee-Vo monitors are required for all customers who want to take advantage of our Scheduled Delivery Program and have their tank levels monitored and automatically filled. Please contact your local office or fill out this page to get a Scheduled Delivery contract sent to you.  Once Range LP receives the signed contract, a monitor will be set on the tank. Monitors currently cost $60 per year per tank and are non-refundable.

How can I check my account balance?

Account balances can be viewed through our online portal.
